CT vs MR imaging in estimating cochlear radiation dose during Gamma Knife Surgery for vestibular schwannomas
American Journal of Neuroradiology Oct 11, 2018
Faramand AM, et al. - In the present prospective study, researchers intended to determine if there was cochlear dose variability between MR imaging and CT. For this investigation, 50 consecutive patients had stereotactic radiosurgery for vestibular schwannomas. Using standard Leksell Gamma Knife software, the mean radiation dose, maximum dose, and 3- and 4.20-Gy cochlear volumes were identified. Results of this study suggested that CT and MR imaging provide similar cochlear dose parameters. High-definition MR imaging alone is sufficient to identify the radiation doses delivered to the cochlea in spite of the reported superiority of CT in identifying bony structures.
