CT characteristics of non–small cell lung cancer with anaplastic lymphoma kinase rearrangement: A systematic review and meta-analysis
American Journal of Roentgenology Aug 23, 2019
Kim TH, et al. - Sixteen studies were involved, comprising of 3,113 patients with non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by the researchers in order to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis regarding CT features of NSCLC with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangement. On CT images those with ALK rearrangement were more frequently solid, central in location, and 3 cm or smaller; had lower contrast-enhanced CT attenuation; more frequently had N2 or N3 disease, lymphangitic carcinomatosis, pleural effusion, or pleural metastasis; and less frequently had lung metastasis, in comparison with NSCLC without ALK rearrangement. Heterogeneity differed among CT features. No notable publication bias was noticed. Hence, NSCLC with ALK rearrangement had various characteristic CT features in comparison with that without ALK rearrangement. Moreover, these CT biomarkers may help recognize patients prone to have ALK rearrangement.
