Crystalline lens power and associated factors in highly myopic children and adolescents aged 4 to 19 years
American Journal of Ophthalmology Jul 19, 2020
Cheng T, Deng J, Xiong S, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to examine the distribution characteristics of lens power in highly myopic Chinese children and adolescents and its correlation with age, axial length (AL), and spherical equivalent (SE). The sample consisted of 459 highly myopic (SE ≤-5D) children and adolescents aged 4 to 19 years. Among highly myopic children and adolescents, lens power differences with age decreased significantly after the age of 9 years, which was 1 year earlier than non-high myopes in previous studies, suggesting the differences in pathophysiological process between non-high myopia and high myopia. For eyes longer than 27 mm, the decoupling of lens power and AL may reflect AL's minimal effect on lens power.
