Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques Oct 27, 2017
Anderson DG, et al. - In this study, researchers compared the patients who underwent lumbar microdiscectomy with and without the use of a cryopreserved amniotic (cAM) tissue graft, in terms of postoperative pain, physical/mental functional recovery and recurrent herniation. They found that use of a cAM tissue graft vs. traditional microdiscectomy afforded statistically superior clinical outcomes, as measured by Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and Short Form-12 (SF-12) (physical composite scale), and a lower rate of recurrent herniation.
