Cross-sectional association between physical activity level and subjective cognitive decline among US adults aged ≥ 45 years, 2015
Preventive Medicine Oct 22, 2020
Omura JD, Brown DR, McGuire LC, et al. - Through analyzing data from 33 states and the District of Columbia who all participated in the 2015 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (N = 128,925), researchers sought to investigate the prevalence of subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and subsequent functional limitations according to physical activity level among US adults aged ≥ 45 years. Overall, SCD was reported by 11.3% of US adults aged ≥ 45 years. As physical activity level declined,. SCD prevalence increased. The prevalence of functional limitations also increased in those with SCD as physical activity level declined. After adjusting for respondent characteristics, these disparities largely persisted. The findings highlight the potential impact of efforts to promote physical activity for cognitive health on public health at the national level.
