Crohn’s disease-specific mortality: A 30-year cohort study at a tertiary referral center in Japan
Journal of Gastroenterology Jan 08, 2019
Yasukawa S, et al. - Researchers examined patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) at a tertiary referral center with respect to survival and cause of death. They created a database based on the medical records of 1,108 patients with CD whose mean age at diagnosis was 25.6 ± 10.8 years. During a mean follow-up duration of 14.6 ± 9.4 years, 52 deaths were reported. Patients with CD displayed high standardized mortality ratios for both all causes and CD-specific causes. High standardized mortality ratios were especially noted for CD-specific causes comprising intestinal cancer, intestinal failure, perioperative complications, and amyloidosis.
