Criteria for postoperative mechanical ventilation after thymectomy in patients with Myasthenia Gravis: A retrospective analysis
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Dec 17, 2017
Chigurupati K, et al. - This study was undertaken to determine the criteria for postoperative mechanical ventilation after thymectomy in patients with Myasthenia Gravis. Grade of myasthenia, history of preoperative myasthenic crisis, anti-acetylcholine antibodies positivity, presence of thymoma, and a vital capacity < 2.9 litres were reported to be the predictors of postoperative ventilation in this population. For attenuating the need for mechanical ventilation, use of thoracic epidural as a part of combined anesthetic technique was found to be helpful.
