Silva LP, et al. - Authors evaluated the immunoexpression of Cripto-1 in normal salivary glands (NSGs), pleomorphic adenomas (PAs), and carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenomas (CaExPAs) of salivary glands. Compared to PA and NSG, a significantly higher expression of Cripto-1 in CaExPA was noted, thereby suggesting a possibility of this protein to be deregulated in PA malignant transformation. Moreover, an association of the increased expression of this protein with a more aggressive behaviour (invasive growth) in salivary gland tumours was seen.
