Bresler AY, et al. - By examining a national database, researchers reported the yearly incidence of craniofacial injuries and patterns of injury related to motorized scooter use. They queried the Consumer Product Safety Commission's National Electronic Injury Surveillance system for the yearly incidence of craniofacial injuries and patterns of injury related to motorized scooter use. They identified records of 990 craniofacial injuries secondary to motorized scooters extrapolating to an estimated 32,001 emergency department (ED) visits from 2008 to 2017. According to findings, the incidence of craniofacial trauma associated with motorized scooter is rising, resulting in thousands of annual ED visits. Many patients have morbid traumatic injuries and may not wear adequate protective equipment. This research shows the significance of public awareness and policy in improving safety and preventing craniofacial trauma primarily.
