COVID-19 transmission dynamics among close contacts of index patients with COVID-19: A population-based cohort study in Zhejiang Province, China

Ge Y, Martinez L, Sun S, et al. - There may be a correlation between the quantity of exposure to a patient with COVID-19 and clinical presentation among close contacts who develop COVID-19.

  • This cohort study included 730 index patients with a COVID-19 diagnosis and 8,852 close contacts.

  • Greatest transmission potential was recorded in the first 2 days before and 3 days after onset of symptoms in the index patient.

  • Contacts receiving a diagnosis of COVID-19 infection more frequently presented asymptomatically if there was exposure to an asymptomatic patient.

  • There may be correlation of the quantity of exposure with clinical presentation in close contacts.
