COVID-19 outcomes in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases in Latin America: Results from SECURE-IBD registry
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Jun 24, 2021
Queiroz NSF, de Almeida Martins C, Quaresma AB, et al. - Based on data from the SECURE-IBD registry, researchers sought to describe the outcomes of IBD patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in countries from Latin America. Patients from Latin America enlisted in the SECURE-IBD registry were involved. Two hundred thirty cases (CD: n = 115, UC: n = 114, IBD-U: n = 1) were reported to the SECURE-IBD database from 13 different countries during the study period. Older age, systemic corticosteroids, and the concomitant presence of one or two comorbidities were related to the outcome of hospitalization or death. IBD patients with COVID-19 in Latin America seem to have comparable outcomes to the overall global data. The risk factors for severe COVID-19 are consistent with previous reports.
