Covered vs uncovered self-conformable metal stent for palliation of primary malignant extrahepatic biliary strictures: A randomized multicenter study
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Apr 15, 2018
Conio M, et al. - Experts undertook a comparison of the stent patency, adverse events rate and overall survival of covered (Niti-S Biliary ComVi) vs uncovered (Niti-s D type) self-conformable metal stents in patients with primary malignant extrahepatic biliary stricture, not eligible for surgery. Eligible candidates included patients with inoperable distal malignant biliary obstruction conducted in 5 Italian referral centers between December 2014 and October 2016. Findings revealed higher stent-related adverse events, although not prominently, among fully covered self-expandable metal stents (FCSEMS) patients. FCSEMSs exhibited a considerably higher rate of migration than uncovered SEMSs (USEMSs) and stent occlusion occurred earlier. A notable variation was reported in patency rate, which was in favor of the USEMS group.
