Cost-effectiveness of trans-nasal endoscopic sphenopalatine artery ligation vs arterial embolization for intractable epistaxis: Long-term analyses
Clinical Otolaryngology Apr 04, 2019
Costa N, et al. - In this retrospective, monocentric, comparative analysis, authors studied the cost-effectiveness of trans-nasal endoscopic sphenopalatine artery ligation (TESPAL) in comparison to embolization to manage epistaxis cases. They observed 37 TESPAL procedures and 39 embolization procedures to treat intractable epistaxis. They recorded higher hospitalization costs for embolization vs TESPAL (5972 vs 3769 euros). When a case was treated by TESPAL, they noted a decline in hospitalization costs by 41% when compared with an embolization strategy. They also found an increase in hospitalization costs by 79% due to the presence of comorbidities.
