Cost-effectiveness of stapedectomy vs hearing aids in the treatment of otosclerosis
JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Jan 26, 2020
Gillard DM, et al. - In the present study, the researchers determined the cost-effectiveness of stapedectomy compared with hearing aid use for the treatment of otosclerosis. In order to determine the possibility that stapedectomy would be cost-effective across a range of model inputs, probabilistic sensitivity analysis was performed. According to results, stapedectomy had an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of $3918.43 per quality-adjusted life-year although stapedectomy was related to increased lifetime costs by $2978.01 vs hearing aids. According to this cost-effectiveness analysis, stapedectomy seems to be a cost-effective choice for treating otosclerosis vs hearing aid use, from the patient viewpoint.
