Cost-effectiveness of anesthesia maintained with sevoflurane or propofol with and without additional monitoring: A prospective, randomized controlled trial
BMC Anesthesiology Aug 01, 2018
Bocskai T, et al. - In the clinical setting of ear-nose-throat surgery, researchers compared the cost-effectiveness of anesthesia maintained with sevoflurane or propofol with and without additional monitoring. They examined four groups, involving 120 adult patients [SEVO (sevoflurane anesthesia), SEVO+ (sevoflurane anesthesia with additional monitoring), PROP (propofol anesthesia), PROP+ (propofol anesthesia with additional monitoring)]. Findings demonstrated the decreased total cost of anesthesia drugs and hastened postoperative recovery consequent to the use of bispectral index (BIS) and train-of-four (TOF) monitoring, however, in this study, these were related to higher disposables costs.
