Cost-effectiveness-analysis of ultrasound guidance for central venous catheterization compared with landmark method: A decision-analytic model
BMC Anesthesiology Apr 15, 2019
Seleznova Y, et al. - Researchers compared ultrasound guidance with the landmark method in terms of cost-effectiveness for central venous catheterization in adults. They developed a decision-tree–based model to determine the costs of averted catheter-related complications. From a Cochrane review and a randomized, controlled trial, they clinical data were derived. They obtained information regarding cost parameters from a German hospital of maximum care. They performed this investigation from the perspective of the German Statutory Health Insurance. More catheter-related complications were prevented with ultrasound guidance for central venous catheterization, according to findings. Moreover, in comparison to the landmark method, ultrasound guidance may save the resources of the German Statutory Health Insurance.
