Cost barriers to asthma care by health insurance type among children with asthma
Journal of Asthma Sep 22, 2020
Pate CA, Qin X, Bailey CM, et al. - Using the 2012–2014 Child Asthma Call-back Survey (ACBS), researchers analyzed cost barriers to receiving asthma care by health insurance type and coverage continuity among children with asthma. The sample consisted of 3,788 children under age 18 years with current asthma who had responses to the ACBS by adult proxy. Connections between cost barriers to asthma care and treatment have been analyzed by demographic, health insurance coverage, and urban residence variables utilizing multivariable logistic regression models. More blacks reported a cost barrier to seeing a doctor compared with whites among insured children. Cost barriers to asthma care have been associated with no health insurance, partial year coverage, and public insurance. Improving health insurance coverage can help improve access to asthma treatment and reduce cost barriers.
