Cost and efficiency of myringotomy procedures in minor procedure rooms compared to operating rooms
The Laryngoscope Feb 08, 2019
Davidson J, et al. - Researchers designed this retrospective review to determine the cost and efficiency differences of bilateral myringotomy with tube insertions performed in the minor procedure room (MPR) vs the operating room (OR). Toal 218 patients (median age was 2.7 years) were included, 123 patients had surgery in the MPR (56.4%), and 95 had surgery in the OR (43.6%). Observations support higher efficiency of bilateral myringotomy with tube insertions in terms of time and cost when performed in the MPR. This emphasizes the necessity for increased availability of MPR time for appropriate surgeries.
