Corticosteroids pulse therapy and oral corticosteroids therapy for IgA nephropathy patients with advanced chronic kidney disease: Results of a multicenter, large-scale, long-term observational cohort study
BMC Nephrology Sep 12, 2018
Tsunoda R, et al. - Researchers evaluated the potential preventive effects of corticosteroids on end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Participants were patients with biopsy-proven immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) treated between 1981 and 2013. In IgAN patients with higher urine protein values, even if their estimated glomerular filtration rate values were low, authors noted a correlation of corticosteroids pulse therapy with better renal outcomes. Findings suggested a that of the unprecedented long-term observation period may have been needed to show the favorable impact of corticosteroids on ESKD progression.
