Cortical perfusion and tubular function as evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging correlates with annual loss in renal function in moderate chronic kidney disease

American Journal of Nephrology Feb 18, 2019

Prasad PV, et al. - In order to assess the role of functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), measurements of perfusion, oxygenation and diffusion of MRI in people with diabetes and stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD) have been performed. This study was attended by 54 subjects. Using a 3T scanner, data with blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD), arterial spin labeling perfusion and diffusion MRI were acquired. Investigators found that there was significantly lower renal perfusion in subjects with a moderate degree of CKD. There were more modest differences between the groups in diffusion and BOLD MRI. They discovered that people with progressive CKD had lower perfusion and furosemide response.
