Correlational study on the levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in type 2 diabetic patients
BMC Endocrine Disorders May 28, 2021
Yuanyuan Zhang, Juyi Li, Yingqun Ni, et al. - In this study, researchers retrospectively examined the correlation between the 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-(OH)D) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Participants were 339 T2DM patients. Division of these patients was done into simple T2DM group (108 cases) and T2DM with NAFLD group (231 cases) in conformity with abdominal ultrasound diagnosis. By abdominal ultrasonography, NAFLD was prevalent in 68%. Findings suggest that in T2DM patients, low levels of 25-(OH) D is a risk factor for NAFLD and progressive liver fibrosis.
