Correlation of subretinal hyperreflective material morphology and visual acuity in neovascular age-related macular degeneration

Retina Apr 27, 2020

Kumar JB, Stinnett S, Han JIL, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective analysis to assess the correlation of subretinal hyperreflective material (SHRM) morphological features with visual acuity in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration. The sample consisted of treatment-naïve patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration enlisted in randomized anti–vascular endothelial growth factor and anti–platelet-derived growth factor clinical trials. Several SHRM attributes including, layered appearance, increased reflectivity, larger size, and hyperreflective spots associated with worse visual acuity at 12- and 24-week follow-ups. Baseline SHRM features may help physicians predict visual and morphological prognosis and guide therapy.
