Correlation between the duration of locoregional control and survival in T1–T2 oropharyngeal cancer patients
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Jan 24, 2019
Caula A, et al. - Investigators examined 602 individuals to explore the association between the time to locoregional recurrence and survival in subjects with T1–T2 oropharyngeal squamous-cell carcinoma (OPSCC) treated between 2000 and 2015. They included all heavy-smokers, with a consumption of more than 20 pack-years. The median time to locoregional recurrence was 15 months; median overall survival (OS) was 44 months. They also observed an association between the time to locoregional recurrence and OS. They noted that the recurrence was local in 59.5%, regional in 27.3%, and both local and regional in 13.2% of the cases. They assumed an unfavorable prognosis when the time to locoregional recurrence was less than 12 months.
