Correlation between sensorineural hearing loss and chronic otorrhea
ENT Journal Sep 23, 2019
Dobrianskyj FM, et al. - This study was undertaken to determine if there is any association between the duration of sensorineural hearing loss in chronic otorrhea cases and whether this hearing loss interferes with duration of the disease or its etiology. In total, 98 patients with chronic otorrhea and 60 with dry tympanic membrane perforation have been assessed. The data presented in this work showed a correlation between sensorineural hearing loss and chronic otorrhea from a statistical study, compared with other patients' normal contralateral ears as well as dry perforated ears. The duration of suppuration or whether this was due to cholesteatoma was not related. In ears with chronic otorrhea, sensorineural hearing loss occurs. Otorrhea duration and suppuration etiology did not affect hearing loss. During childhood, the vast majority of otorrhea cases start.
