Correlation between retinal vein occlusion and cancer – A nationwide Danish cohort study
Acta Ophthalmologica Oct 06, 2018
Toft-Petersen AP, et al. - Authors evaluated the correlation between retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and incident cancer. Study participants were all Danish citizens with a first-time diagnosis of RVO and no previous cancer diagnosis from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2014. Findings suggested a link between diagnosis of RYO and an increased risk of being diagnosed with cancer. Rather than a causal association, they noted that this risk probably reflected shared risk factors. As per data, 1.22 was the crude risk of cancer, and upon full adjustment, it was 1.15 among RVO patients. They did not detect any time dependency; the types of cancer developed in RVO patients and controls were similar.
