Correlation analysis between preoperative serum iron level and prognosis as well as recurrence of HCC after radical resection
Cancer Management and Research Jan 11, 2020
Li Y, Xu W, Chen P, et al. - Via this retrospective study, researchers examined the correlation between serum iron levels and the prognosis and risk of recurrence in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). They assessed a total of 253 HCC patients who underwent radical resection. Findings suggest an independent predictive value of preoperative serum iron for HCC patients. For preoperative serum iron in the assessment of HCC postoperative prognosis, the optimal cut-off value was 94 ug/dL according to the ROC curve. They observed worse postoperative survival and a higher recurrence rate in HCC patients with low preoperative serum iron levels. The prognosis of patients with low iron levels may be improved with appropriate iron supplementation.
