Correlates of employment status in individuals with asthma: A cross-sectional survey

Taponen S, et al. – Researchers explored the factors associated with working full–time among adult asthmatics. Findings highlighted that in these subjects, a link was apparent, between full–time work and younger age, less symptomatic asthma, respectively, despite less medication, nonmanual work and less smoking. In addition, more severe asthma symptoms were found to be related to undesirable employment status such as unemployment or work disability. Data suggested that for preventing work disability and early exit from work, possibilities to change from manual to nonmanual work appeared crucial.
