Correlates and importance of neglect-like symptoms in complex regional pain syndrome
Pain May 03, 2018
Wittayer M, et al. - In this study, researchers searched for the significance of Neglect-like symptoms (NLS) with regard to the patient outcome and identified their clinical correlates in a group of patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). In acute CRPS, neglect-like symptom scores were associated with pain and pain catastrophizing and in chronic CRPS, the scores correlated with anxiety and thermal sensory loss. In addition, high NLS scores showed a negative impact on pain outcome after 6 months. NLS thus proved to have a different meaning in acute and chronic CRPS and might be having prognostic value. Focussing on reducing NLS ought to be considered while performing a treatment.
