Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-associated hospitalization and mortality in patients with psoriasis: A population-based study
American Journal of Clinical Dermatology Jun 04, 2021
Kridin K, Schonmann Y, Bitan DT, et al. - This population-based nested case-control study was carried out to characterize a large cohort of patients suffering from psoriasis with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as well as to determine predictors of COVID-19-related hospitalization and mortality. Participants were 3,151 patients with psoriasis who tested positive for COVID-19. An elevated odds of COVID-associated hospitalization was observed in relation to use of oral methotrexate, whereas the use of biologic drugs was not related to worse results of COVID-19 in patients suffering from psoriasis. The independent predictors of both COVID-19-related hospitalization and mortality included older age, the presence of comorbid cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and chronic renal failure.
