Coronary vascular function in patients with resistant hypertension and normal myocardial perfusion: A propensity score analysis
European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging Mar 08, 2019
Gaudieri V, et al. - In patients with systemic arterial hypertension, researchers assessed the link between resistant hypertension (RH) and myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) after balancing for coronary risk factors in this study including 360 subjects without overt coronary artery disease (CAD) and normal myocardial perfusion at stress-rest rubidium-82 (82Rb) positron emission tomography/computed tomography. A propensity score-matched cohort was created, taking into account clinical variables and coronary risk factors. Blunted hyperemic myocardial blood flow (MBF) and MPR were observed in patients with RH vs patients with controlled hypertension after balancing clinical characteristic by propensity score analysis. In patients with RH, early structural changes of the arterial walls could be detected via identification of impaired MPR.
