Coronary perivascular epicardial adipose tissue and major adverse cardiovascular events after ST segment-elevation myocardial infarction

Atherosclerosis Jun 10, 2020

Toya T, Corban MT, Imamura K, et al. - Researchers examined the link between perivascular epicardial adipose tissue (pEAT) thickness and prognosis following ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). This study included 180 STEMI patients who had cardiac magnetic resonance imaging within 1 week of prompt infarct-related artery revascularization and 52 age/gender/BMI-matched controls. Findings revealed the presence of significantly higher pEAT indices in STEMI patients vs controls. In revascularized STEMI patients, composite MACE (major adverse cardiovascular events) was independently predicted by superior interventricular groove pEAT index, this highlights the potentially prognostic worth of this variable.
