Coronary calcification as a predictor of cardiovascular mortality in advanced chronic kidney disease: A prospective long-term follow-up study
BMC Public Health Jun 01, 2019
Cano-Megías M, et al. - In this 10-year prospective longitudinal study, researchers assessed coronary artery calcification (CaC) as a risk factor for mortality in end-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study included consecutive cases referred to the renal unit, consisting of 137 patients with advanced CKD. According to findings, a significant increase in cardiovascular (CV) mortality was observed during a 10-year follow-up period in patients with severe CaCs. Also, findings were suggestive of a possible utility of CaCs as a prognostic tool for predicting CV mortality risk in CKD patients.
