Coronary artery disease in adults with coarctation of aorta: Incidence, risk factors, and outcomes
Journal of the American Heart Association Jun 19, 2019
Egbe AC, et al. - Via this retrospective analysis, researchers examined coarctation of aorta (COA) patients (n=654) as well as a control group (n=876) patients with valvular pulmonic stenosis and tetralogy of Fallot, to investigate if the primary determinant of coronary artery disease (CAD) occurrence in COA patients was atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk factors rather than COA diagnosis. The CAD risk did not differ between the patients with COA and other patients with congenital heart disease, after adjusting for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk factors. Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, male sex, and older age per year were documented as multivariable risk factors for CAD.
