Coronary artery bypass grafting versus percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with non-insulin treated type 2 diabetes mellitus: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews Oct 04, 2017
Wang Y, et al. - This meta-analysis aims to examine the outcomes and prognosis of revascularization by either coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with non-insulin treated type 2 diabetes mellitus (NITDM). This study reveals that in NITDM patients, CABG surgery is correlated with reduced risk of mortality and morbidity, though with an increased incidence of stroke compared with PCI. When considering CABG over PCI, the decision if to have PCI or CABG surgery should factor the risk for stroke of the patients. To confirm the results of this meta-analysis, adequately-powered randomized controlled trials are needed.
