Coronary artery bypass grafting after acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Apr 04, 2021
Elbadawi A, Elzeneini M, Elgendy IY, et al. - Researchers used the 2002-2016 National Inpatient Sample database to analyze the trends as well as results of isolated coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) following ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). There were 3,347,470 hospitalizations for STEMI, of those, 7.7% had isolated CABG. Findings of this nationwide analysis revealed a reduction in the utilization of isolated CABG post-STEMI. In sicker hospitalizations, isolated CABG was conducted on day 1, and was related to higher in-hospital mortality when compared with CABG performed on day ≥ 3. In the recent cohort, similar in-hospital mortality was noted for isolated CABG on day 2 vs day ≥ 3.
