Seko Y, Kishimori T, Kato T, et al. - In this study population of acute heart failure (HF) patients, those who had coronary angiography exhibited a lower risk of clinical results and were significantly different from those who did not receive coronary angiography.

• This study included 2163 patients who were hospitalized for HF without acute coronary syndrome or prior HF hospitalization; 37.0% of patients underwent coronary angiography.

• Age < 80 years, men, diabetes, no atrial fibrillation or flutter, no prior device implantation, current smoking, no cognitive dysfunction, ambulatory status, HF with reduced ejection fraction, no anaemia, and no prescription of β-blockers prior to admission, all were identified as factors independently related to coronary angiography.

• A lower risk of the primary outcome (the composite of all-cause death or HF hospitalization) was noted in patients who had coronary angiography [adjusted hazard ratio (HR) = 0.70].

• Among those who had coronary angiography, absence of a lower risk of the primary outcome measure was seen in cases with coronary stenosis (38.9%) vs those without coronary stenosis (adjusted HR = 0.93).

• Among the patients with coronary stenosis, those who underwent coronary revascularization (54.3%) did not exhibit higher risk of the primary outcome measure compared with those without coronary revascularization (adjusted HR = 1.36).
