Corneal nerve structure in patients with primary Sjögren’s syndrome in China
BMC Ophthalmology May 19, 2021
Li F, Zhang Q, Ying X, et al. - This study sought to assess the in vivo confocal microscopic morphology of corneal subbasal nerves and its relationship with clinical parameters in patients with primary Sjögren’s syndrome in China. Researchers conducted a case-control study including a total of 22 dry eye disease patients with primary Sjögren’s syndrome and 20 control individuals with non-Sjögren dry eye disease (NSDE). Compared with NSDE patients, it has been observed that Sjögren syndrome dry eye (SSDE) patients have more severe clinical dry eye parameters. SSDE patients showed reduced corneal subbasal nerve density and numbers in comparison with NSDE patients.
