Corneal endothelium:a Promising quantitative index for Graves ophthalmopathy activity evaluation
American Journal of Ophthalmology Jun 10, 2021
Zhou M, Wu D, Yu F, et al. - In this cross-sectional study involving 64 patients (128 eyes), researchers sought to examine the corneal endothelium damage in Graves ophthalmopathy (GO) and its role as a promising quantitative index to assess GO activity. Proptosis, tear break-up time, corneal fluorescein staining, and the Schirmer test were all performed on all individuals. Among the eyes studied, 81 had inactive GO, and 47 had active GO. When compared with inactive GO, active GO caused morphological changes in the corneal endothelium. Cell area is a sensitive indicator of corneal endothelial function that has the potential to be used as a non-invasive, objective, and quantitative index to assess the activity status of GO patients.
