Core needle biopsy vs incisional biopsy for differentiation of soft-tissue sarcomas: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Cancer Feb 16, 2020
Birgin E, et al. - By analyzing 17 studies with 2,680 patients, researchers compared core needle biopsy (CNB) vs incisional biopsy (IB) for diagnostic accuracy in soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) with reference to the final histopathological result. Systematically explored studies about the diagnostic accuracy of CNB and IB in identifying STS were included. These studies were identified from MEDLINE and EMBASE databases. To detect the dignity of lesions, CNB and IB yielded sensitivity and specificity of 97% and 99%, respectively, and 96% and 100%, respectively. Overall, findings revealed the high accuracy of CNB in diagnosing the dignity of lesions as well as STS histotype and fewer complications associated with it when compared with IB. Considering CNB as the primary biopsy technique was, thus, recommended.
