COPD is independently associated with 6-month survival in patients who have life support withheld in intensive care
The Clinical Respiratory Journal May 22, 2018
Maamar A, et al. - Experts presented the 6-month outcomes of discharged patients who had treatment limitations in a general Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and identified prognostic factors of survival. A survival for at least at least 6 months after discharge was seen in a total of 58.8% of patients for whom life-sustaining therapies were withheld in the ICU. A significantly higher survival rate was seen in patients with COPD. In COPD patients post-ICU care and non-readmission should not be stopped consequent to the decision to withhold life support.
