Conversion of fused hip to total hip arthroplasty: Long-term clinical and radiological outcomes
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 26, 2020
Grappiolo G, Bruno CF, Loppini M, et al. - The present study was conducted to assess clinical and radiological outcomes with a minimum 5-year follow-up in patients who underwent a conversion of the fused hip to total hip arthroplasty (THA). Researchers assessed 57 patients (59 hips). They applied the Harris Hip Score, range of motion and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to evaluate hip function and low back pain. They also assessed subjective satisfaction with surgery and the presence of Trendelenburg sign. They further conducted radiological evaluation pre- and postoperatively to assess loosening and heterotopic ossification. At long-term follow-up, conversion of the fused hip to hip arthroplasty serves high levels of hip functionality and satisfaction with surgery. It was shown that an implant survival rate higher than 70% can be expected 25 years postoperatively.
