Conversion of adjustable gastric banding to stapling bariatric procedures: Single- or two-stage approach
Annals of Surgery Feb 14, 2021
Spaniolas K, Yang J, Zhu C, et al. - This study was performed to compare the safety of single- vs two-stage conversion of adjustable gastric band (AGB) to gastric bypass (RYGB) or sleeve gastrectomy (SG). Using a statewide database, researchers identified a total of 4,330 patients who underwent AGB removal and concurrent (single-stage) or interval (two-stage) RYGB or SG. Outcomes revealed low morbidity in correlation with undergoing AGB conversion procedures. Lower morbidity was observed in correlation with undergoing single-stage conversion compared with the two-stage approach. Relative to conversion to RYGB, conversion to SG appears safer.
