Contribution of obstructive sleep apnoea to arterial stiffness: A meta-analysis using individual patient data
Thorax Jul 26, 2018
Joyeux-Faure M, et al. - Researchers performed an individual patient data meta-analysis from nine relatively homogeneous studies, to assess the contribution of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) to arterial stiffness, measured by pulse wave velocity (PWV). These studies included well-characterised patients referred for suspicion of OSA. A Complior device was used to measure carotid–femoral PWV. They merged individual data from these patients to perform an individual patient data meta-analysis. Evidence from these studies highlighted a role of cardiovascular risk factors rather than apnoea parameters as a driver of elevated arterial stiffness in patients with OSA.
