Contrast-enhanced ultrasound with perflubutane for sentinel lymph node mapping in cutaneous melanoma: A pilot study
The Laryngoscope Apr 25, 2019
Bertelsen C, et al. - In this single-arm pilot study in a swine animal model, authors estimated the accessibility of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to recognize the sentinel lymph node (SLN) associated with cutaneous melanoma. They observed 5 primary cutaneous melanomas with a mean area of 4.36 ± 4.75 cm2 and Breslow depth of 3.6 ± 1.5 mm. They also recognized 6 SLN with CEUS whereas 9 were identified with vital blue (VB) dye. They found histologically confirmed metastatic melanoma in 67% of SLNs identified by CEUS and 44% candidate SLNs identified by VB.
