Continuous hemodialysis with citrate anticoagulation and standard dialysate for managing acute kidney injury in patients with moderate to severe hyponatremia: A retrospective study
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Mar 06, 2021
Hellman T, et al. - Whether continuous veno‐venous hemodialysis (CVVHD) with standard dialysate and citrate‐calcium anticoagulation offers a feasible treatment strategy for hyponatremic critically ill acute kidney injury patients, was determined in this retrospective analysis. This study involved 37 patients. At the commencement of CVVHD, median plasma sodium level was 127 (IQR 124‐129) mmol/L. Findings revealed that an effective elevation of plasma sodium level was brought about by CVVHD using standard citrate‐calcium anticoagulation. However, half of the patients exhibited excessively high plasma sodium correction. Standard citrate anticoagulation solutions offered a substantial sodium load.
