Continuity of care and delivery of diabetes and hypertensive care among regular users of primary care services in Chile: A cross-sectional study
BMJ Open Nov 06, 2019
Leniz J, et al. - Using data from the Chilean Health National Survey 2009–2010, researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to examine factors related to continuity of care and its correlation with diabetes and hypertensive care, and disease control. Utilizing logistic regression, relationships between continuity of care, sociodemographic characteristics, and primary and secondary outcomes were analyzed. Three thousand eight hundred eighty-seven primary care service users were involved. Continuity of care was positively correlated with age > 65 years, being female, retired, obese, high cardiovascular risk and widowed, and negatively related to educational level, smoking and physical activity. Continuity of care was linked to diagnosis awareness, pharmacological treatment and a recent foot and ophthalmological exam in diabetic but not in hypertensive individuals. Results recommend chronic conditions patients have better continuity of care access.
