Consumption of polyphenols in coffee and green tea alleviates skin photoaging in healthy Japanese women
Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology Feb 14, 2020
Fukushima Y, Takahashi Y, Kishimoto Y, et al. - Using food and environmental questionnaires and a VISIA facial photoimage analyzer, researchers conducted a cross-sectional survey of 244 healthy Japanese women (aged 30 to 60 years) to determine if there is an association between the consumption of total polyphenols (TPs) and the hyperpigmentation of facial skin. Findings suggested that higher consumption of TPs can be advantageous to mitigate photoaging of the skin, and coffee, as well as, green tea contribute to suppressing skin hyperpigmentation by adding large amounts of TPs in the diet. Individuals with high consumption of TPs in both beverages exhibited the lowest Pigmented Spot scores.
