Consumption of fruits and vegetables: Improved physical health, mental health, physical functioning and cognitive health in older adults from 11 European countries
Aging and Mental Health Apr 06, 2020
Gehlich KH, et al. - Using multilevel regression analysis (participants nested within countries), experts aspired to explore whether consumption of fruit and vegetables was correlated with overall health, including mental health and cognitive health of older European adults. Participants in the study (n = 22,635) were asked in 2011 about their health behaviour including nutritional habits. According to results, frequent fruit and vegetable intake was linked to improved health outcomes, including cognitive and mental health. Frequent fruit and vegetable intake leads to slower disablement processes and could be an easily implementable way to improve the overall health of older adults.
