Constipation and other common symptoms reported by women and men in methadone and buprenorphine maintenance treatment

Haber PS, et al. - The aim of this study was to describe the symptoms related to methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) in men and women. Although men and women receiving opioid substitution treatment (OST) reported similarly high rates of somatic symptoms, it was still less than opioid users not receiving OST. Few differences were found between buprenorphine maintenance treatment (BMT) and MMT. Buprenorphine could be preferred where sweating was problematic. The authors identified several modifiable factors.
