Conservative management of women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 in Denmark: A cohort study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Jan 28, 2020
Skorstengaard M, et al. - Researchers undertook a nationwide register-based cohort study at Denmark to determine the progression, persistence, and regression of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 (CIN2) following the implementation of new guidelines on conservative treatment (2014–2017), vs previous practice (2008–2011). They assessed women aged 18–44 years diagnosed with CIN2 on biopsy: 6,721 in 2008–2011 and 6,399 in 2014–2017. The implementation of the new guidelines led to the more frequent use of conservative management, and now, it is used for more than half of women with CIN2. Further, it led to more frequent lesion regression, now 47% of women managed conservatively experienced lesion regression. Women younger and older than 30 years exhibited similar regression rates; this suggests conservative management as justifiable for women of childbearing age.
